Hey family! We started our day with breakfast at 8:30, and we were on the road by nine! Ready to hike! Even though it was a long hike, it was ten times easier because we were going downhill. A bunch of us dunked our heads under waterfalls to keep ourselves cool. After many 'group gulps', pictures with the donkey, and screaming at the top of our lungs into the valley (sick echo), we reached Asni! We’ve never been so thankful for a bus, despite the fact that there was no AC haha. We returned back to Marrakech and everybody jumped in the pool to cool off.
That night, we ate our very first meal that did not include tajine and it was delicious. We both had lamb burgers with caramelized onions and yummy seasoned potatoes. 10/10, would recommend. We got back to the riad kind of late, with our bellies full and our minds tired we made sure to make the 'anchor' meeting as quick as possible. After packing (its amazing how our bags exploded after only two hours haha), showering, and ganging up on two giant cockroaches, we slept soundly for seven beautiful hours. Then, crankily waking up to the sound of Chazzy’s incessant presidential knock. Much love, Corrina and Ella We began our final day in the quaint village of Asni with our usual descendent down the mountain to the worksite. Thanks to everyone’s artistic abilities we were able to finish the amazing mural with help from the villagers. Later that afternoon, our host families dressed us up in traditional clothing and hijabs. They were so pretty and covered in gold, silver, and blue designs. Eyeliner, what our host mother applied to our faces, is quite different here in Morocco !! Once everyone was dressed up and ready for the evening, we headed over to Genevieve’s host family to wait for the men to prepare the celebration. We danced and sang all night long with our host families as well as the rest of the village. The celebration was amazing and everywhere you looked you saw bright smiling faces and people singing at the top of their lungs as they danced. We left the village with tears in our eyes and warmth in our hearts. We all wish we could stay here longer and so do our families. Can’t wait to tell you all our stories when we get back!
