Today we got up early and went to the Jemez Hot Springs. From there we headed to Santa Fe where we visited and American Indian Museum and had lunch in a park. After lunch we parked in the main plaza and did a scavenger hunt. The reward was rattlesnake eggs (not really…they were a gag). After the scavenger hunt we toured the town, had pizza, and drove back to our campsite. Tomorrow is our last day of adventure.

Yesterday we visited the great sand dunes and rented sleds so we could slide down the dunes. Today we hiked in the Valles Caldera and the scenery was beautiful. Tomorrow we head to Santa Fe! Happy Father’s Day to all of our dads and people in our lives that fill that role every day! Today we went rock climbing. We spent the morning learning the basics and climbing several different routes up the rock formations. After a yummy lunch, we learned how to repel. We finished the afternoon climbing some pretty high routes up the rock walls. Later in the evening our cooking crew made a terrific stir fry for dinner. It’s our last night at the lodge and we are cleaning and getting ready to move on to New Mexico tomorrow with a fun stop half way at some sand dunes. On Friday we went rafting down the Arkansas River with class 2 and 3 rapids. Later that evening we had s’mores around a campfire. Then on Saturday we went fishing. Rush, Braxton, and Oscar all caught trout. Braxton even caught a stick! Saturday evening we visited Salida, Colorado for a fun festival and had dinner. We will rock climb tomorrow. We started off our day waking up at 5. We had a burrito on our way to the 13 mile hike. The hike had great views over twin lakes and the surrounding mountains. Some summited others went to a small lake. After the long hike we went back and ate a early dinner. We finished our day at the hot springs. After leaving the camp site at mission wolf, we headed to salida to eat lunch and get tested for Covid. We all ended up testing negative so we went and got ice cream to celebrate. We then walked next to the Rio Grande and afterword we headed to Buena vista Colorado. We are currently at the fountain valley mountain school which is a luxury compared to mission wolf. We’re getting up early tomorrow morning to embark on a 8 mile hike with a 3000 feet elevation gain and a peak of 12000 feet. The Ensworth crew started the day off volunteering at Mission Wolf. From there we headed off to visit a homemade castle hidden in the Colorado wilderness. Before dinner, the boys hiked up a nearby foothill and made it to the summit. The day ended with a final encounter with the wonderful wolves of Mission Wolf. Off to Buena Vista tomorrow! We woke up to the smell of pancakes. We then met a chipmunk named Alvin. After we talked about our fears with the groups. Then we had some Funtime sun time. Where we played spike ball and threw the frisbee around. We then toured the Mission Wolf sanctuary. After this some of us peeled bark off of trees and others helped in the greenhouse. We then cooked up some some extravagant burritos. We then got to get up close with 3 of the wolves. Some of us were lucky enough to receive a nice wet smooch from the wolves.
Yesterday, the group woke up and had a filling breakfast before setting off down a mountain to see some of the ancient Puebloan cliff dwellings in Bandelier National Monument. They then had a long drive up to the Mission: Wolf that ended with a late, “tasty” pasta dinner and campsite set-up. Today, they are working on two different service projects at the wolf sanctuary and will have the chance to meet some of the wolves this evening.
We will post more updates when we receive them from the group. WLS Team The group arrived safely in New Mexico a few hours ago and were all smiles. They are headed up to Bandelier National Monument to camp for the night before heading to Mission: Wolf tomorrow.
Stay tuned for more updates! WLS Team |
